Now that summer has left us and fall is upon us, it is time for the Fall for Dance Festival 2013. Fall for Dance remains one of the jewels of New York. For the same price that one pays to see a film at a movie theatre, you can see a live world-class dance concert with multiple international dance companies…only in New York! New York City Center is celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Fall for Dance Festival.

The festival consist of five different programs, 10 concerts, 24 international dance companies and three world premiere festival commissions. This year, two free evenings of dance at the Delecorte Theatre in Central Park have been added, sponsored by The Public Theatre, on Sept. 16 & 17. All other performances take place at New York City Center, 131 West 55th Street (between 6th and 7th avenues) in Manhattan from Sept. 25 to Oct. 5.

The festival also features pre-show dance lessons in the Lounge FFD and panels by choreographers, artist and dance educators at Barbara and David Zalaznick Studio, City Center, 130 West 56th Street, 5th floor. All pre-show events will start at 6:30 p.m and all dance performances start at 8:00 p.m.

Fall for Dance is a two-week festival consisting of five unique programs and will include performance by: 605 Collective, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, American Ballet Theatre, Ballet Hispanico, BODYTRAFFIC, Colin Dunne, DanceBrazil, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Dorrance Dance, dougelkins choreography, etc., Gabriel Misse and Analia Centurion, HeadSpaceDance, INTRODANS, Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, Martha Graham Dance Company, Nrityagram, Richard Alston Dance Company, Sara Mearns and Casey Herd, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui/Sadler’s Wells London, and Royal Ballet.

To celebrate Fall for Dance’s 10th Anniversary Season, City Center has commissioned three new works: Annabelle Lopez Ochoa will create a new piece for Ballet Hispanico; Justin Peck will choreograph a new ballet for Sara Mearns, Principle Dancer, New York City Ballet, and Casey Herd, Principal Dancer, Dutch National Ballet; and The Royal Ballet’s Artist-in-Residence Liam Scarlett will create a new pas de deux for the company, which marks the first time his work will be seen in New York. Each commissioned work will receive its world premiere at the festival and will be performed twice.

City Center’s beautifully restored Grand Tier Lobby will be transformed into Lounge FFD for each Fall for Dance performance providing a gathering place for audience members and artist to relax, mingle, have a cocktail and/or snack or take a free dance lesson, a great place to meet friends and have pre-show conversation.
