The Windward Islands were crowned champions of the 2022 Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars U-17 championship recently.
After four rounds of matches, the squad coached by Clyde Telesford finished atop the six teams standing with 17 points.
Former champions Barbados (14.8) placed second and Jamaica (14.2) third with host T&T (12 points), Guyana (11 points) and Leeward Islands (8 points) rounding off the table.
Windward Islands copped the regional title after defeating Trinidad and Tobago by 28 runs at the National Cricket Center in central Trinidad. The Windward Islands was the only team to secure three wins from four matches.
At the award ceremony, held at the Couva Chamber of Commerce, Windward Islands wicket keeper Divonie Joseph was adjudged the tournament’s most valuable player. He also shared the “most dismissals by a wicket keeper.”
