Newly elected Cricket West Indies (CWI) President, Ricky Skerrit has announced a “shake-up” of the selection policy which could pave the way for past players like Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, and Sunil Narine who have not featured in in the One-Day International team in recent years to have a chance to play at being selected for the World Cup.
Skerrit said new interim coach Floyd Reifer, interim chairman, Robert Haynes and Director of Cricket, Jimmy Adams have all been reaching out to the West Indies players in the Indian Premier League (IPL) to determine their willingness to represent the West Indies for the upcoming World Cup, including former West Indies Captain Darren Sammy.
He said from all indications, those discussions have been promising.
Director of Cricket, Adams said all those players in the IPL will be available for selection subject to fitness and form.
Skerrit has promised to ensure that the strongest possible West Indies team to England compete at the game’s showpiece.
He has called on the new selectors to ensure that everyone is given a fair look in and they must be judged on their performance on the field of play and not off the field.
West Indies won the inaugural tournament in 1975 and followed up with the title in the second edition in 1979.
