Cricket West Indies (CWI) has named South African Ryan Maron as the new head coach of the West Indies men’s team.
He will also assume special responsibilities for fielding.
The 42-year-old replaces Andre Coley, who was recently named as head coach for the Windward Islands Volcanoes in the current Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
Maron doesn’t bring any international experience to the job, but he has played 18 first class matches for Western Province.
His career as a coach saw him work with the Dolphin franchise in South Africa and the Afghanistan men’s team as a fielding specialist.
Maron joins Roddy Estwick and Toby Radford as the assistant coaching staff, headed by Stuart Law.
He is specifically targeting the limited over sides and will aim to help address the Windies slide in those formats.
Maron is already in England working with the West Indies team ahead of the England series.
CWI Director of Cricket Jimmy Adams said, “We are pleased to have Maron join us. He has a vast knowledge of the game and has done some good work. As we prepare for the upcoming West Indies Trophy Test series in England, I am sure he will be a great addition to the coaching staff.”
The first Test bowls off on Aug. 17 at Edgbaston.
