A team of West Indies Cricket Legends, spearheaded by the legendary Sir Garfield Sobers, will be heading to New York to attend a star-studded reception and play two Twenty20 matches.
Some of the high-profile names, who are part of the event, include Deryck Murray, Gus Logie, Daren Ganga, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Gordon Greenidge, Carl Hooper, Courtney Walsh, Desmond Haynes and Richie Richardson.
A banquet with the legends will be held at the Antun’s Banquet Hall, Springfield BLV in Queens. The event will take place on July 31, 2015.
The legends will take on a New York All-Star XI in two Twenty20s on Saturday, Aug. 1 and Sunday, Aug. 2. Former West Indies great, Gordon Greenidge is spearheading the effort to bring the legends to New York.
Promoter Pooran Ramnanan is asking the various cricket leagues in the Tri-State to suspend their schedules for the weekend, so that the members and fans can come out and enjoy a fabulous week-end of cricket.
He also noted that the legends will participate in a coaching exercise with young players from New York Public Schools Athletic League.
It is also expected that the legends’ games will create opportunities for the schools to mix with the stars.
