West Indies Test and Twenty20 team captain Darren Sammy has expressed concern over the inconsistent performances of the squad, in both the Twenty20 and One-Day Internationals.
Sammy was speaking to the media recently at the Players Pavilion, Arnos Vale, St. Vincent following the 2-0 Twenty20 series loss against Pakistan.
Pakistan, who jumped to No 2 in the ICC Twenty20 team rankings, behind Sri Lanka, defeated the 2013 World Twenty20 Champions by two wickets and 11 runs recently, both in St. Vincent.
Sammy said; “Once again, we bowled well but we didn’t bat well. It’s been a problem for us. We don’t play well in both innings of the match.
“In order to win cricket games, you got to be consistently good in whatever aspect of the game,” Sammy said.
The top order batting has been a struggle against India and Sir Lanka in the Mobile Cup and the ODIs T20 Internationals against Pakistan.
“We’ve have not batted in partnerships in the One-Days and Twenty20s and not occupied the crease as long as we should,” he said.
“Most of the times, you’ll find the (lower order) coming up and bat until the end of the innings. In any cricket game, you want to see better ‘batter’ batting through till the end of the innings. We’ve not been able to do that, in the 50-overs and Twenty20 formats.” Sammy noted.
“It could be fatigue but your performance, on the cricket, has to be much better than what we just played,” he added.
