On Friday, Dec. 8 Brooklyn Council Member Jumaane Williams celebrated the holiday season with families in the community at the annual Holiday Tree Lighting in Amersfort Park, E 38th St., Brooklyn.
“Families enjoyed an evening of food, fun and caroling, and, of course, lit up the tree to shine throughout the park,” said Williams, who represents the 45th Council District in Brooklyn.
The event was hosted by the Friends of Amersfort Park and Elite Learners, Inc., and supported by Williams, Assemblywoman Helene Weinstein, Flatlands Flatbush Civic Group, Nieuw Amersfort Community Association and Partnership for Parks.
“The annual event drew an excited crowd that was in the holiday spirit,” Williams said.
He said entertainment featured holiday songs performed by the PS 119 student chorus, under the direction of December Francis.
Students from the school also designed creative ornaments that were hung from the Christmas Tree, Williams said, adding that Santa Claus even stopped by the park, “to the delight of the children and families.”
