Brooklyn Council Member Jumaane D. Williams on Monday hosted a town hall meeting with Flatlands Flatbush Civic Group at P.S. 109 in East Flatbush, addressing City initiatives and constituent issues.
Williams, who represents the 45th Council District in Brooklyn, said constituents and interested members of the public “had opportunity to learn about city initiatives, and raise issues of concern” to him and representatives from various City agencies.
Areas of discussion include issues pertaining to quality of life, transportation, small businesses and education.
“Town halls are great forums to share information and resources to community members who otherwise are unaware of the programs, initiatives and assistance that are available to them,” Williams said. “Too often, we see local offices and groups, such as neighborhood precincts, overladen with issues that they may not have the capacity to handle. This is an opportunity for the community to get face time with the different agencies and see the other avenues available to them.”
“The Flatlands Flatbush Civic Group was extremely pleased by the turnout of elected officials, agency representatives and most importantly, community residents at last night’s Town Hall,” said Gerard Brewster, communications director for Flatlands Flatbush Civic Group.
“The community has quickly responded with dozens of positive calls and e-mails to express their gratitude for the opportunity to voice their most immediate concerns. the Town Hall has energized our Community,” he added.
Brewster said the town hall meeting would not have been possible without the “sustained efforts of the Councilman and his team to improve the quality of life within the Flatlands Flatbush Community.
“We look forward to working on future initiatives with Councilman Williams,” he said.
The next town hall will take place on Nov. 29 at P.S. 181, at 1023 New York Ave., from 6 pm to 8 pm.
