It is about time that the West Indies Cricket Board gets serious and demonstrate some respect for their former players by getting them meaningfully involved with West Indies cricket. West Indies Test and one-day status reflect on the type of management that exist around West Indies cricket.

All around the world, the cricketing nations have former players assisting not only under 15 and 19 players but the senior team as well. Too many technical flaws exist with the West Indies senior squad and the overall manner in which business is conducted demands the best in the field. The West Indies Test and one-day teams lack cricketing knowledge and unique application to create wins.

Genuine information from some former West Indies players will provide a better platform for West Indies players to attain victories. Having talents can create advantages but it is necessary to have the proper knowledge on how to utilize such talents. So many young cricketers came on hurriedly to the international scene and quickly faded. Those cricketers that are on the scene in Tests and one-day internationals are failing miserably.

Trinidad and Tobago’s opening batsman Adrian Barath started off a flying career on debut with a Test century against Australia but he is now struggling to score 40 runs in an innings.

Darren Bravo has been struggling too long as a top order batsman and he is now out of the Twenty20 West Indies squad. His Test spot is in trouble too because of his low batting average. Apart from Shivnarine Chanderpaul, no other current West Indies player has a credible average in Test cricket.

West Indies selectors must provide the appropriate squads to compete.
