West Indies World Cup chances are slim

West Indies cricket team faces an uphi

ll task when they defend their Twenty20 ICC world title in Bangladesh. The wickets in Bangladesh are slow and batsmen are expected to do very well under those conditions. West Indies batsmen are not playing top class cricket and the other teams have embarked on serious cricket. West Indies batsmen have not been consistent and their strategies are failing. World Cup 2014 Twenty20 will be very competitive and the West Indies team is in the same group as Australia and India.

BADREE, NARINE AND SANTOKIE HAVE TOUGH JOB

Samuel Badree, Sunil Narine and Krishmar Santokie all have difficult jobs set out for them as they face up to the World Twenty20 tournament. Badree and Narine are the recognized spinners and Santokie is the medium pacer seamer with an accurate left arm steady action. Narine’s figures in the last game of the tournament in 2013 when the West Indies won was three wickets for nine runs from 3.4 overs.

SAMUEL BADREE IS A SUPERB BOWLER

Badree is exceptional in Twenty20 cricket. He is an intelligent bowler with great strategies and knowledge on how to take wickets. He can be the trump card for the West Indies in picking up wickets but all the other bowlers must step up to the task and give valuable support. Taking catches and ground fielding must be to the top level. The West Indies batting force comprises Chris Gayle, Marlon Samuels, Dwayne Bravo, Lendl Simmons and Dwayne Smith.

TOUGH OPPOSITION

Opposing teams in the Twenty20 World Cup would play hard against the West Indies because the team is the current world champion. Teams that have the capabilities of bowling well and restricting any opposition should do well. West Indies are champions because their bowlers did a fine job in the final and where Marlon Samuels gave a fascinating batting display.

Australia, South Africa and India will be tough opponents throughout the World Cup. Australia has the best all-round team on paper and its players are now playing top class cricket. David Warner, Australia’s opening batsman who just captured the man of the series award in South Africa, is one of the players who can help his team to win the tournament.
