West Indies cricket team performed remarkablly well against New Zealand winning the twenty20 series 2-0, the One Day International series 4-1 and the test series 2-0. Windies batsmen came on pretty well in all three series. Chris Gayle and Dwayne Smith dominated the twenty20. Gayle, Samuels and Russell contributed well with the bat in the One Day Internationals. In the two test matches Marlon Samuels dominated the batting scoring heavily in the test series. Opener had a solid knock in the first test match in Antigua scoring a century, Gayle struck 150 in the first innings. Marlon Samuels scored a century and a half. Century in the last test in Jamaica winning the man of the match. Sunil Narine and Kemar Roach bowled outstandidly in the two test matches. Jino Best played the last test in Jamaica and bowled very well picking up vital wickets at crucial times. Narsingh Deonarine the right hand spinner from Guyana bowled very well in the last test match and he took some Remarkable catches. Sunil Narine, Kemar Roach and Narsingh Deonarine spear headed the Windies bowling attack.
Kemar Roach is Man of the Test Series
Kemar Roach stood up with Shivnarine Changerpaul and pushed the West Indies out of danger un the second test match in Jamaica. The West Indies won by five wickets. Roach was named man of the series mainly because of his superb bowling picking up wickets frequently.
Areas of Concern
The opening position in test cricket remains a serious concern. Kieron Powell has not yet cemented his position at the top. The reasonable decision to make is place Adrian Barath at number three or Kieron Powell. It would be better to open the innings with Chris Gayle and Adrian Barath the left and right combination and maybe place Powell at number three. Powell has multiply flaws that he has to work on. As Sad Fudadin and Powell have been constantly playing across the line and getting trapped leg before. West Indies still have to decide on a number three batsman in order to strengthen the top order in tests. Too much pressure is on Sunil Narine. Darren Sammy’s bowling seem to be of no use, his batting falls under the corresponding category of useless. Windies selectors need to put a captain in place that earns the respect of the team and a performer that would contribute significantly either with bat or ball or both. Darren Sammy’s captaincy is too sloppy and he must be replaced. Windies selectors must act quickly.
