The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) which governs West Indies cricket must be re-named, “Peoples’ Regional Cricket Board, (PRCB). This board which officiates over cricket has failed the region and changes must be made to create a normal relationship with players based on common understanding and mutual respect.
WIPA MUST BE CHANGED
No one individual with a title of president or chief executive officer must be put to face the task of negotiating on behalf of players. The players should be represented by three members when negotiating with the WICB. WICB must seriously implement most, if not all, the recommendations of CARICOM. CARICOM’s Cricket Committee came up with several sound, common sense resolutions to solve the disastrous state of the ruling body of West Indies cricket.
NB: The WICB has too many directors sitting idle with nothing for them to do. Put them to work.
UNPOPULAR CHOICE
Australia failed to come close to capturing the International Cricket Council’s Twenty20 2016 Tournament not because of bad selection of players but because of a lack of professionalism and unity. Coach Darren Lehman and selector Mark Waugh were fully aware of the causes for Australia not capturing the title in the Australia vs India game. Steve Smith was adjudged caught behind and that was a huge error by the umpire.
DAVID WARNER MUST START THE INNINGS
David Warner maybe flexible batting down the order in the IPL but not for Australia. Usman Khawaja is a swashbuckling left-handed opener who simply could have slipped down to number three. Warner and Shane Watson should have started the innings and when Aaron Finch arrived, Watson should have made way for him gathering the Warner / Finch combination. The Warner / Finch combination is the best combination because of the right and left batting. Warner wanted to start the innings for Australia and he should have been given that opportunity.
CALLOUS APPROACH
An experienced player as Glenn Maxwell did not look as if he wanted to maintain not time at the wicket, his approach was not aggressive but just loose and irresponsible. David Warner’s approach was similar to Maxwell’s. Two senior players that the team highly dependent upon and they displayed some poor cricket.
STEVE SMITH SHOULD RESIGN FROM THE T20 CAPTAINCY
Captaining three dimensions of cricket can become a bit fatiguing especially the hurried pace in which the Twenty20 games are played. Steve Smith should focus on Test Cricket and One-Day International.
