Renowned Caribbean Philanthropist and Business Leader, Dr. Vincent HoSang, OD, was honored recently with the prestigious Lehman College Community Leadership Award at their gala held at the New York Botanical Garden.
One of the two such awards for the evening, Lehman College cited Dr. HoSang’s philanthropic efforts in education, health and community empowerment as measures used in bestowing the award on the Caribbean Food Delights/Royal Caribbean Bakery president and CEO.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. HoSang’s presentation of his humble beginnings of never completing his secondary education, but successfully positioned his companies to the highest rank and skillfully distinguishing Caribbean Food Delights as the largest frozen food manufacturer in the world were among the major highlights of the evening. To show his continued support to education and the empowering of the youth in the Bronx community, he personally donated $25,000.00 in scholarships to the Lehman College Foundation.
The scholarships in memory of his younger son, Brian HoSang, will be awarded to four high achieving students of Caribbean descent majoring in the field of Business Administration with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. He said, “I strongly believe in giving back and I can recall the invaluable support of the Lehman College students when I started business 35 years ago on Kingsbridge Road.” He adds, that he was extremely grateful to the Bronx community at large, which through customer loyalty and commitment has played a significant role in the growth and development of his companies.
The philanthropist had a message for students. He said, “In your effort and aspiration to achieve your goals, when you get there, always remember you did not get there alone, someone during your lifetime no matter how insignificant it may be, did help you along the way!” He charged the students to think about his message and in return, help others.
Other awardees for the evening were, Dan Kane, Jr., president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 202. He was also a recipient of the Lehman College Community Leader Award and Managing Director of Signal Hill Capital, Ira D. Cohen, Class of 1973, receiving the Alumni Achievement Award.
