A video challenge, titled “GT50,” was launched as part of a program of activities to celebrate Guyana 50th Republic Jubilee Anniversary, and is open to Guyanese in the Diaspora (USA) and Guyana, between 14 to 18 years old. The deadline for submission via YouTube Channel tinyu
The challenge, themed – “What can Guyana at 50 do, to catapult its advancement on the world stage- is being hosted by the newly formed “Guyanese in the Diaspora Inc. a New York based not-for-for-profit group of community volunteers, under the distinguished Patronage of the Honorable Barbara Atherly, consul general of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana.
The first prize winner — gold medal will receive round-trip tickets for two to Guyana (For US based winner) or round-trip tickets for 2 to New York (for Guyana based winner) in addition to a Microsoft SurfacePro Laptop 120GB, 13-inch display.
The silver medal, second prize winner, will receive a Microsoft SurfaceGo Laptop 64GB, 10.5-inch display, while the third rrize ~ Bronze Medal, will receive a Microsoft FUSION5 Tablet 64GB, 10-inch display.
Ten finalists will be awarded the “Guyanese in the Diaspora Inc.” Golden Jubilee Plaque in recognition of their exemplary performance and participation.
The objective of the video challenge is to highlight Guyana’s development within the Diaspora by engaging Guyanese youths both in the Diaspora and at home, to share their vision of a modern Guyana through social media.
Participants will identify a specific area in which Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) would / could play a critical role in advancing Guyana’s development. (Other areas that can be examined include the media and communication, politics, Health, the Environment, Oil and Gas, and other industries of Guyana.
Competitors must be Guyanese by birth, descent, or naturalization.
The competition is free. Immediate family members (brother, sister and children) of the Guyanese in the Diaspora Inc. and the Consulate staff are not eligible to participate. Only one entry is permitted.
Each video must be 3 to 5 minutes in duration, and must be accompanied by name, date of birth, school or college, email and telephone number.
Plagiarism is strictly prohibited. Contestants who do not abide by the rules will be disqualified. Additionally, content must not promote illegal behavior; support racial, religious, sexual or other individual prejudices; advocate violent or other forms of exploitation, invade the privacy of any person, defame or disparage any individual or organization, or be otherwise inappropriate as determined by the GT50 Video Challenge Committee.
The video content must be SMART: – S-Specific, M-Measurable, A-Attainable, R-Relevant, T-Timely.
“Ownership of the intellectual property of the videos remains with the participants but “Guyanese in the Diaspora Inc.” reserves the right to use all winning video submissions for educational and promotional purposes.”
Guyanese in the Diaspora Inc. maintains the right to use, reproduce and promote winning videos on their website and other social media platforms.
The organization has assured that winners will be announced no later than Sunday, Feb. 23, 2020, noting that editing is allowed after a video is submitted. By participating in the video challenge, contestants must agree to be bound by the GT50 Video Challenge competition’s official rules and guidelines.
Videos will be judged by Language and Style ((Visual clarity and expression of theme) — 20 percent, Technical Execution ((Audio and Visual quality) — 20 percent; Structure and organization of thought (Clear and compelling expression of message) — 15 percent; Originality and Creativity (Artistic merit — the ‘wow’ factor) — 15 percent, (Music and other special effects are allowed) – Content (Practicality and feasibility of the idea) — 30 percent.
Each participant selected as a potential winner must comply with all terms and conditions set forth in these Official Rules and winning is contingent upon fulfilling all such requirements.
