Vaughn Mesquita, a senior at the University Height High School won the annual “Young Achievers” oratorical competition held at Harlem Hospital Center recently.
The competition was organized by the Metro-Manhattan Chapter of The Links, Incorporated and the Alpha Gamma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Seven African Americans and Latino males spoke on the topic: “Beyond the Rhetoric – Health Care for all Americans: Entitlement or Privilege.”
Metro-Manhattan Chapter of The Links, Incorporated and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. have joined hands to hold this competition for several years as part of their mentoring program to encourage high school minority male students to go college.
