Veteran Guyana and West Indies cricketer Shivnarine Chanderpaul will be honored this week by the University of the West Indies (UWI) when the Vice-Chancellor’s team plays an England XI in a 50-0vers game at Warner Park, Bassterre, St. Kitts.
The match will be a warm up for the England squad, which will take on West Indies in a three-match One-Day International series. A former West Indies captain, Chanderpaul’s 22-year-old career ended in 2016.
The UWI Vice-Chancellor’s XI Cricket Match has been a tradition in regional cricket for over 20 years, celebrating the historic partnership between two organizations — the University of the West Indies and the West Indies Cricket Board.
It was the brainchild of the late former West Indies captain, Sir Frank Worrell, who was a student counselor and administrator at UWI’s Mona Campus in the mid-1960s.
