The University of the West Indies (UWI) Soil Science Department is assisting in the investigation regarding the recent abandonment of the fourth Test between West Indies and India at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain Trinidad.
Only 22 overs of play was possible on the opening day and despite the fact there were three days of brilliant sunshine, not a ball was bowled.
The Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) has partnered with the officials at the Oval in trying to get a proper investigation done and report sent to the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) to be presented to the International Cricket Council (ICC) within the next two weeks.
WICB faces a fine of up to US$15,000 and the Oval could the stuck off the ICC list for two years, if the explanation is not credible.
A release from the TTCB said the UWI experts have already begun their investigation to ensure this situation will not be repeated as more cricket is being played during the wet season.
This was the first time in Queen’s Park’s 125 year history that a Test match was being staged this time of the year (rainy season) at the Oval. This was the 60th Test being hosted at the Oval.
