Trinidad and Tobago female athlete Michelle-Lee Ayhe created history at the Commonwealth Games at the Gold Coast, Australia when she copped Gold in the l00 meters women’s final.
Taking silver with a time of 11.21 seconds was Jamaica’s Christiana Williams, while Gayon Evans also from Jamaica took bronze in a time of 11.22 seconds.
Sprinter Ahye was named Trinidad and Tobago Sportswoman of the Year (2017) by the First Citizens Sports Foundation Sports Award at Queen’s Hall, Port of Spain recently..
It was the second straight year that Ahye has copped the “Sportswoman of the Year” award.
And in swimming Dylan Carter also created history for T&T by winning Silver in the Men’s 50 butterfly final at the Commonwealth Games last Friday. It was the fitst6 ever medal for a swimmer at the Commonwealth Games.
Competing in lane six at the Optus Aquatics Center, Carter grabbed silver to finish second in an exciting race that saw first second and third place separated by just.36 of a second.
Carter, 22, who was competing in his first meet since turning profession, had the fastest reaction out of the blocks and touched the wall in 23.67 seconds.
South Africa Chad Le Clos, who was lowly out of the blocks but quickly took control of the race to secure gold in 23.17 second, while his compatriot Ryana Coetzee claimed the bronze in 23.37 second.
