The Trinidad and Tobago 4×400 relay team, which captured gold on the final night of the IAAF World Championships in London in August was given an award for “Best Male Athlete for the Americas” by the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) at a ceremony in the Czech Republic recently.
The 4×400 meters team comprising of Jarrin Solomon, Jereem Richards, Michael Cedeno, Lalonde Gordon and Renny Quaw was among a number of athletes honored at the ceremony at the Forum Karlin, one of Prague’s premier venues.
The national quartermilers were the stars on the final night of the IAAF World Championships in London, when Solomon, Richards, Cedeno and Gordon made history, coming from behind to win a thrilling race, bringing Trinidad and Tobago’s first ever gold medal in the event, denying the United States, a seventh straight gold at the Championships in the event, which brought the competition to a close.
ANOC President Sheik Ahamad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah established the ANOC Awards and it was held for the first time in Bangkok in 2014.
This year the best men’s and women’s athletes of all five continents were honored.
