Just recently, Brooklyn’s BiPolar Lounge on Atlantic Avenue was the scene of a Masquerade Ball. Titled Jlehsiek, fans and fashion elite alike, applauded Keishel “Inanna” Williams’ Fall /Winter 2013 Sneak Peak collection of flirtatious, chic pieces of firm fitting textured slacks, a white mini dress, and a holiday red evening wear.
The Trinidad-born couturier, celebrated her country’s 50th Independence Anniversary with the elegant women’s wear that she described as feminine but strong. Her portrayal showcased her growth in the industry and her dedication to fashion that mirrors her homeland’s journey.
“I wanted to create a collection that exude strength and beauty explained Williams who expressed her excitement about this particular collection, because of the tireless work that went into creating the line.
The svelte models made a dramatic entrance wearing “red, white and black masks to showcase William’s themed Sneak-Peak before striking a pose atop adais to showoff the garments.
Williams, who is a skilled costume designer, then unleashed an array of colorful cutting-edge revelry outfits that brought the carnival spirit into focus. The headpieces were designed with feathers, beads and sequins.
It has been seven years since Keishel Williams, then a teenager, in Brooklyn, wowed her St. John’s Place neighborhood with a stylish, colorful fashion show that showed great promise.
She had arrived in the U.S. just two years before, with her sights set on pursuing a degree in fashion design. Today, the talented, energetic designer is well on her way to cementing her sense of style and creativity in the world of fashion.
Her first collection Jlehsiek “Sunday in The Park” FALL 2011 collection during NYFW earlier this year displayed classic gowns in color-blocking in black and silver, and floral prints.
Williams began her fashion career during high school in Toco, Trinidad while designing for beauty pageants. As the brains and beauty behind the enigmatic clothing line Jlehsiek, she describes herself as a self-taught fashion designer who has always had an innate passion for fashion.
At an early age she was exposed to art and was inspired to start her own clothing line K’licia Designs-later changed to Jlehsiek – at the age of 12.
Her eclectic background in fashion and media as a designer, model, host and writer gives her a ubiquitous eye in the industry as she works to build her brand as well as build a platform for emerging Caribbean designers.
Experience means everything to her, she added and ”J lehsiek is about creating an experience for the modern woman who admires the luxurious, classic style proper women wore before our time.
