It was a landmark celebration!
VP Records festively honored legendary label Greensleeves Records with a concert celebrating their 40th anniversary at B.B. Kings Blues Club and Grill on June 21. The full-house concert featured reggae artists Addis Pablo, Alborosie, and Queen Ifrica, who performed several of their songs and classics, that best represented the quality of artists the British-based label produced, said a director at VP Records.
“The recent concert at B.B. King is an excellent example of the quality of music that has been put out on Greensleeves over the past 40 years,” said Richard Lue. “Addis Pablo represented his father’s legacy on Greensleeves, Alborosie represented the label’s current roster and Queen Ifrica represented VP Records. Together they put on an amazing show.”
At the concert Addis Pablo, the son of dub musician Augustus Pablo, opened to the show with a performance paying homage to his late father and sang a few of his popular songs such as, “Java.”
Also at the show was Italian-born reggae musician Alborosie, who debuted his first New York concert. During his performance he surprised guests by bringing Lady Ann to the stage, who gave the crowd a performance of her 80s hit song, “Informer.” Queen Ifrica concluded the celebratory show with songs of her recent album.
The event was one of many worldwide celebrations of the legendary British reggae record label, which was acquired by VP Records nearly a decade ago.
In addition to the concert, exclusive records honoring the anniversary of the label are available, as well as more that are set to be released this year. They include new projects from Alborosie and King Jammy, and even re-releases from various artists.
