Three West Indies selectors who were fired by the new Cricket West Indies (CWI) board plans to challenge the manner of their dismissal in court.
This was revealed by the legal counsel Tony Astaphan for chief selector, Courtney Browne, along with Lockhart Sebastien and Eldine Baptiste.
Astaphan slammed comments made by CWI president Ricky Skerrit regarding the removal of all the selectors from their posts and also plans to challenge the manner of their dismissal.
In announcing the changes at a media conference Skerrit said, “we have terminated the old embedded selection policy which secretly, but actively, victimized some players and banished them from selection.”
Astaphan said his clients are very troubled by their dismissal and the manner of their dismissal, particularly the statements made about the “old embedded selection policy which secretly but actively victimized players and banished them from selection consideration”.
“This is a serious charge and it affects the manner of dismissal of Mr Browne, Mr Baptiste and Mr Sebastien,” he said.
Astaphan contends that the selection policy at the center of discussion, which allegedly marginalized certain players, had not been set by Browne or his panel.
Browne was replaced by interim chairman, Robert Haynes, while Adams and interim head coach Floyd Reifer, were also appointed to the panel.
Vasbert Drakes, who served as an assistant coach, recently indicated through his lawyer, Barbadian QC Ralph Thorne, that he would be taking legal action against CWI.
