Five-time Jamaican Olympic gold medalist Elaine Thompson-Herah opened her 2022 season with victory in the women’s 60m at the 20th staging of the Queen’s/Grace Jackson Development meet at the Stadium East field, Jamaica on Saturday, Jan. 29 according to Loop Sports.
Champion in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m in Tokyo, Thompson-Herah crossed the line in a personal best 7.19 seconds against “an unfavorable 1.9m/s wind,” Loop Sports said.
It said Thompson-Herah was challenged early by Shashalee Forbes of Sprintec but pulled away midway for an easy victory.
Remona Burchell, also of Sprintec, closed fast, but she had to settle for second in 7.29. Forbes finished third in 7.36, Loop Sports said.
“New season, kicking it off with the 60m, it feels great,” said Thompson-Herah afterwards. “I am happy to be here.”
Loop Sports said Thompson-Herah is the Jamaican record-holder and second-fastest woman of all time over 100m (10.54) and 200m (21.53).
