The Elite Weekend, a premier New York party event, was officially launched at the Pegasus Hotel in Jamaica recently, with New York City-based promoters promising a “premier experience.”

Anthony Turner, the New York-based, Jamaican entertainment publicist, told Caribbean Life on Monday that the launch was attended by A-list guests, along with several media practitioners.

Turner said the party series — which encompasses the chic All-Blue “Bleu & Bougie” (Saturday, March 16) and the classy All-White “Soirée en Blanc” (Sunday, March 17) — will take place at Devon House in Kingston, the Jamaican capital, two days before the hugely popular ISSA Boys & Girls Athletics Championships (Champs), which takes place at the National Stadium in Kingston.

“We strategically chose to host the event the weekend before Champs, which is attended by over 30,000-plus excited fans,” Jerry McDonald, executive of The Elite Weekend told Caribbean Life on Monday.

“Champs is a major magnet for Jamaican living in the Diaspora. In fact, Champs brings more Jamaicans home than most events that I can think of,” he added. “The Diasporans, who travel from popular destinations like New York, Florida, Atlanta, Texas, New Jersey, Connecticut and Toronto, are passionate about track & field. They also love a great party which is where The Elite Weekend comes in.

“We will be targeting them and party patrons in and around Kingston,” McDonald continued.

Sephron Mair, another executive from the Elite Weekend team who travelled to Jamaica, said he was “pleasantly surprised by the warm, welcoming reception received in Kingston.”

“The vibe on the ground and the feedback we received were heartwarming,” he said. “The media embraced the concept, which is more than we could have asked for.

“Jamaica, ‘March Mania’ is coming, and we promise to deliver a first-class experience like you have never experienced before,” Mair proclaimed.

Turner said The Elite Weekend is a “food and drink inclusive event that will provide the best in Caribbean cuisine.”

He said part proceeds from the weekend festivities will assist Team Jamaica Bickle (TJB), which provides support services for Caribbean athletes, particularly Jamaicans, who compete at the annual Penn Relays Carnival, at the Franklin Field stadium, at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Mair said Devon House is “one of the most celebrated historical landmarks in Jamaica and is the architectural dream of Jamaica’s first Black millionaire, George Stiebel.

“The iconic space is synonymous with fun, family entertainment and recreation in Kingston,” he said.
