Alton Aimable, the St. Lucian-born leader of Tropicalfete mas band, said it will be a “true Caribbean cultural experience” when the band exhibits “The Carnival Jungle – Sweet Fuh Days” in this year’s West Indian American Day Carnival.
“The jungle as an arena of color and beauty, where, as ‘Sweet Fuh Days’ by Patrice Roberts is the song that Tropicalfete’s Steel Band Ensemble will perform for Junior Panorama,” said Aimable in Caribbean Life interview.
“This year, we are bringing our stilts mas and steel pan in one street theater production,” he added.
Aimable said “The Carnival Jungle” comprises four mixed sections — male and female — for a total of 75 masqueraders from all over the world.
“[We] are mainly looking to have fun and express our culture,” he said.
Aimable said Tropicalfete, which was formed in 1999, officially became a not-for-profit organization two later. That same year, it started participating in the West Indian American Day Carnival.
Over the years, Aimable said the band has taken third spots for both adults and kids.
Aimable said masqueraders will groove to Tropicalfete’s sweet steel pan music, as well as music from an unidentified New York top DJ.
