Some fine all around performances from Australian cricketers caused them to defeat the West Indies by 58 runs and win the Tri-Nation Series. Australia batted first and scored 270 runs for 9 wickets. Captain Steve Smith scored 46, Matthew Wade 57 (not out) from 52 balls and Mitchell Marsh 32 for the West Indies.
Captain Jason Holder picked up 2 wickets for 51 runs and Shannon Gabriel 2 for 58. Australia scored 119 runs off their last 19 overs with opener Aaron Finch scoring 47.
WEST INDIES BOWLED OUT FOR 212 RUNS
West Indies received a good start of 49 runs from openers Andre Fletcher and Johnson Charles but the batting collapsed drastically to the end. Charles scored 45, Ramdin 40, Jason Holder 34 and Kieron Pollard 20.
Josh Hazlewood took 5 wickets for 50 runs from 10 overs and Mitchell Marsh 3 for 32 from 10 overs. Josh Hazlewood was named “Man of the Series” for his 11 wickets that he took.
Note: The West Indies selectors should consider Test Opener Kraigg Brathwaite to be one of the opening batsmen in the One-Day International games for the West Indies.
NEW CHAIRMAN OF SELECTORS
Former West Indies wicket keeper batsman Courtney Browne will be the new chairman of selectors from Oct. 1, 2016. Browne has been on the senior panel for almost six years.
