Cancer screening: The Montefiore Einstein Center for Cancer Care and Montefiore Medical Center’s Division of Dermatology are offering free melanoma/skin cancer screenings for people of all ages. Screening participants will undergo a total skin exam that takes 10 minutes and can save their lifes. All screening participants will receive a free UV wristband to monitor exposure to harmful UVA and UVB rays. The sun-sensitive band changes color to show when to reapply sunscreen and when to get out of the sun. Appointments are encouraged, but not required. (HCC) and the AIDS Leadership Coalition (ALC) will launch “Be the Parent Day” from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00p.m. in commemoration of Haitian flag day. Sponsored by EmblemHealth, and inspired by Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz’s “Take Your Man to the Doctor,” HCC stresses a call to action for young adults to bring their parents and/or guardians to the event, to receive tests for vision, blood pressure, diabetes, glucose, HIV and Hepatitis C, along with weigh-ins, health education and fitness consultation.
