Suede Restaurant, a popular Caribbean eatery that has made a name for itself, offering delicious dishes at reasonable prices, was named Restaurant of the Year by the Brooklyn Borough President Nightlife and Restaurant Coalition, (BNRC) at its 2nd Annual International Food and Wine Tasting event on Monday, June 26.
Copping the title for the first time, Suede, and other Caribbean restaurants received certificates from BNRC, citations, and Congressional Certificates, handed out by CB-17 BNRC Coordinator, June Persaud at the J-Loft Banquet Hall at 1055 E 45th St. Footprints Cafe won the title last year.
The Newest Business honor went to the J-Loft, while Vivid Bistro, was named Best Customer Service. Best New Restaurant went to Gallis Lounge and Restaurant, the Love Partnership award went to Pizza 57 Restaurant and Wien Bar, and Most Improved, went to Round 2 Café. Silver Crust got the Community Service nod.
The Longevity honor went to Tropical Reflection Ballroom, while Kelly Ann Daniels, received prizes on behalf of Royal Wines.
Other restaurants receiving awards included Footprints Cafe, and Tasty Delicious.
The event, sponsored by Royal Wines Bartenura, and BK Bottles, offered samples of food and wine to a large audience, who were seen carrying plates piled-high with Caribbean fare offered by the business owners.
Tropical Rhythms Band and a carnival costume presentation by Sesame Flyers provided entertainment at the event. This event was an initiative by Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams to improve relations and dialogue between bar and restaurant industry stakeholders, the communities in which they operate and the City of New York.
The membership is free and open to any establishment that holds a Department of Health food Services, establishment license or an on-premises liquor license, distilling, or brewer license. All restaurants, bar, cafes, and nightclubs are eligible.
Membership is established when an operator signs up for the Google group.
