Freshman Stephany Perez is the first student to receive the Christian Leadership Scholarship from Our Saviour Lutheran School in the Bronx on Monday, Jan. 23.
Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. presented the award to Perez. He also announced, on behalf of the school, that applications are now being accepted for the scholarship for incoming freshman beginning in the 2012-13 school year.
Initiated this year, the Christian Leadership Scholarship awards full tuition for all four years of high school at Our Saviour to an incoming ninth grade student who exhibits principles of Christian leadership such as compassion, servant leadership, care for others, courage, and honesty in all aspects of their life.
Different from other academic-based scholarships, the Christian Leadership Scholarship seeks to discover and nurture leaders who will develop a lifelong commitment of Christian service to their families and communities.
Founded as a storefront church in 1928, Our Saviour has grown into a church and pre-kindergarten through high school that “educates and prepares God’s children in a nurturing Christian environment to faithfully live out the Gospel as Christ-centered servant leaders.”
From its earliest days Our Saviour has remained committed to discovering and empowering young people who are often overlooked and underserved by traditional institutions. Our Saviour’s commitment to small class sizes, individual attention and extra tutoring from teachers, as a part of a holistic Christian education, while upholding the standards of both the New York State Regents and Middle States Accreditation, makes Our Saviour well equipped to serve its diverse student population.
