Artist Jonathan Bauch’s work will be exhibited at The Carter Burden Center for the Aging’s Gallery 307, 307 Seventh Ave., Suite 1401 in Mahattan from Oct. 21 to Nov. 18.
“Spirits in Steel” will feature the art of 70-year-old artist, Jonathan Bauch. The solo show at Gallery 307 will exhibit a sampling of Bauch’s sculptures. The sculptures are a result of the interplay between imagination, emotion and intellect. Located in Chelsea, Gallery 307 is The Carter Burden Center’s program, which gives a voice to older artists, self-taught artists and artists with special needs.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Bauch graduated from Parsons School of Design in 1961 and studied painting at NYU and the School of Visual Arts, and sculpture at The Educational Alliance. His early work as a painter evolved into aluminum and wire mesh relief sculpture with colored lights.
Since 2000, Bauch has created approximately 70 works in welded steel, many with painted enamel, whose raw, expressive free shapes draw inspiration from forms in nature, as well as the physical proprieties of the metal itself. He has exhibited throughout the N.Y. metro area and New England, in addition to teaching.
Gallery 307 brings quality arts programming through workshops for seniors throughout the city taught by skilled professional artists.
The Carter Burden Center for the Aging, Inc. is a non-profit agency established in 1971 by the late Carter Burden when he was a New York City Councilman.
