Stephanie McKay, singer, songwriter, and musician opens the fourth season of the Apollo’s Music Café Series on Friday, Oct. 4. Presented in the upstairs soundstage, the audience will have an opportunity to experience the artistry and talent of Ms McKay in an intimate setting at the famed Apollo Theatre.
McKay has garnered praise from critics and fans alike for her soulful voice and socially conscious lyrics. She has collaborated with artist including Toshi Reagon and the Big Lovely, Roy Hargrove, DJ Katalyst, MosDef (Yassin Bey), Talib Kweli, Tricky, Carl Hancock Rux, Kelis and many others.
She is a true New Yorker, born in Harlem and raised in the Bronx. Her music career spans more than 20 years and encompasses styles and elements of Jazz, R&B, soul, neo-soul, rock, funk, pop and hip hop. She has toured the world and has recorded several albums. McKay has been described as a soul revivalist with all the tent revival intensity of Lyn Collins and the neo-soul groove-ease of Jill Scott.
The show starts at 10:00 p.m., but door opens at 9:00 p.m. Get there early, have some refreshments and relax in the ambience of the Apollo Café and prepare yourself for a wonderful evening of the Stephanie McKay music.
On Saturday, Oct. 5 acclaimed winner of NBC’s The Voice and former backup singer for Alicia Keys, Jermaine Paul will take the stage of the Apollo Café and rock the house with his guitar and a combination of rock, soul and R&B.
