In order for the West Indies to show any strength in the five-match One-Day series against South Africa, the selectors must bring in Lendl Simmons and Jermaine Blackwood to create some stability in the middle order. Both Simmons and Blackwood have the talent to come in the middle and restore some stability to the batting.
Leon Johnson do not belong in the One-Day squad and as a measure of long term planning, it will be correct to play batsman Jermaine Blackwood in the One-Day Internationals for him to gain international experience. Blackwood will be a member of the Test team and giving him the exposure in the Limited Overs will prepare him for the longer version of the game.
Promoting Andre Russell in the batting order to at least number four should change his approach to the middle. Having that responsibility may modify his approach as a batsman.
Russell, Darren Sammy, Denesh Ramdin and captain Jason Holder must provide runs and bat intelligently.
Chris Gayle and Dwayne Smith have their own way about commencing proceedings but in spite of how the innings started, the batsmen coming down the order must build on partnerships.
West Indies batsmen seem to be too much in a hurry to score and not giving sufficient consideration to the duration of the innings.
