On Monday, Aug. 20, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz honored “Secret Millionaire” Sean Belnick and the Brooklyn-based nonprofits Friends of Firefighters and Children of Promise NYC at the final show of the 2012 Martin Luther King, Jr. Concert Series in Central Brooklyn.
Belnick, founder of BizChair.com, is one of the nation’s youngest and most successful entrepreneurs. At age 14 he spent $500 to build an online business selling office chairs from his home computer. Ten years later, his Atlanta-based company has evolved into BizChair.com, a multi-million dollar e-tail enterprise with such clients as Google, Microsoft, Abercrombie & Fitch and many others.
During a recent episode of ABC’s “Secret Millionaire,” Belnick surprised Red Hook-based Friends of Firefighters and executive director Nancy Carbone and Children of Promise NYC president Sharon Content with donations of $65,000 and $60,000, respectively. Bed Stuy-based Children of Promise used part of the support to purchase a new shuttle van that will help transport children to visit their incarcerated parents.
