Mr. Samuel, A. A. Hinds, M.P, arrived in Washington, on July 1, to begin duties as Guyana’s Ambassador to the United States replacing eighth Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, and Fourth Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS), Dr. Ryad Insanally, who stepped down after the PPP government was sworn-in.
Hinds, Guyana’s ninth Ambassador to the United States of America and Fifth Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States, served as prime minister in 1992 under then President Bharrat Jagdeo. He was then appointed vice president of Guyana from 1992 – 2015.
After the death of Dr. Cheddi B. Jagan, Ambassador Hinds served as executive president of Guyana from March to December 1971.
According to Guyana’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, Ambassador Hinds attended the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada (1963-1967) where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering.
He also holds an Honorary Doctorate of Science, from that same university. Ambassador Hinds brings a wealth of experience to his new post, having served in the highest offices of government. He looks forward to further strengthening the extant relations between Guyana and the United States, as well as with the Organization of American States (OAS).
Guyana and the United States established formal diplomatic relations on May 26, 1966 and with the Organization of American States in 1991.
