Ruschell Boone is the Queens Reporter for NY1 News and an award winning journalist. She joined the news channel in 2002. She also works as a fill-in anchor and talk show host.
Boone has covered many major news stories, including the Sean Bell police shooting, Hurricane Sandy and the overwhelming number of homeless people living in the subway system.
Her work was recently recognized by her peers. She received the 2014 award for Best Spot News Reporting from the New York Association of Black Journalists. In addition, she won the New York Press Club’s 2013 award for Best Feature Reporting.
Prior to her arrival at NY1, Boone worked as a news associate for CNBC Business News, where she produced news updates and wrote for several shows.
She went on to CNN, where she worked as an associate producer and assignment editor.
Ruschell is a native of Kingston, Jamaica. She emigrated to New York City as a child and attended Richard R. Green Junior High and Harry S. Truman High School in the Bronx.
She earned a Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting from Baruch College in Manhattan.
