So you think you can dance huh? The Riverside Theatre is offering ‘confident and talented’ dancers a chance to strut their stuff during a two-day workshop to feature emerging dancers and dance companies.
Continuing an almost half-century tradition of rich arts programming, The Riverside Theatre is proudly presenting NuDance 2011—a two-day program of innovative and cutting-edge performances by the next generation of pioneering dance artists—on Friday, Dec. 9 and Saturday, Dec. 10, 7:00 p.m. at the Theatre, 91 Claremont Ave. (bet. 120th & 122nd St.), Morningside Heights.
According to a 2007 article in The New York Times reviewing this unique program: ‘NuDance presents emerging choreographers who showcase new and original choreography that is not only innovative and cutting edge, but also thrilling to watch. The selection of choreographers for the NuDance Festival…was unusually good…The Festival…summoned memories of the theatre’s history as a major presenter of dance.”
Kicking off the program each evening will be the Choreographers in Creation workshop, an intimate dialogue with the choreographers that explores the process and inspiration behind their new works.
The innovative performances that will take place during NuDance draw from a diverse range of compelling topics and themes, including celebrating the N.Y. GLBT community’s successful marriage equality fight (Dance Iquail! – Equality for Us 2); the role of prey and predator (Motivating Excellence – Instinct: The Animal Within); the ecological phenomena of tectonic plate shifts (NEVILLE Dance Theatre – Terra Nova: Shift); and the physical expression of emotions through music and dance (Opus Dance Theatre – Concerto Del Plata).
