This past weekend a 50-year-old Jewish man was said to be physically beaten and choked in the afternoon on Rutland Road and Schenectady Avenue in Brooklyn after heading home from a local synagogue.
According to police, this was an assault motivated by bias intent.
As an advocate for tolerance, Assemblywoman Diana C. Richardson, who represents the 43rd Assembly District in Brooklyn, spoke out against this heinous act.
“There is no room for hatred in our community, and I condemn this deplorable act,” she said.
“The 43rd Assembly District is a melting pot of every creed, religion and color,” she added. “As a decedent of immigrants, I am disheartened by this senseless action, which in no way represents what we stand for.”
Richardson said the attack was said to be preceded by revolting comments, stating “Your fake Jews stole all my money and robbed me.”
The assailant was described by the victim to be muscular with a light beard, who appeared to be in his 40’s.
The New York City Police Department is still said to be investigating this occurrence.
