With over 20 years of producing mas, Trinidadian Anton Reynolds says his mas band, Rhythm Catcher International, catches “5 Elements’”for Labor Day.
He told Caribbean Life that “5 Elements” comprises “Earth,” “Fire,” “Water,” “Wood” and “Metal.”
“All sections are designed for women,” said Reynolds, whose dream was to produce mas ever since he was “a little boy back home.” “This year, we did not include men ‘cause we realize, in the past, men prefer just to buy a t-shirt.”
He said each section will have a maximum of 50 masqueraders, with between 150 and 200 altogether.
“New York is a big melting pot, so our masqueraders are from all over the Caribbean,” Reynolds said. “Everyone hopes to come in first, but, most important, all masqueraders have fun.
“We haven’t won yet, but our time is coming,” he assured in competing for a top prize in the West Indian American Day Carnival Parade. “Masqueraders can expect great music, a loving staff, food, beverages and, most of all, safety.”
Reynolds said preparations are “going accordingly,” with “a lovely staff that works around the clock to make sure needs and deadlines are met.”
Masqueraders will move to the rhythms of DJs Sterling Silver, Desperado and X-rated.
The mas camp is located at 2705 Church Ave., close to the corner of Rogers Avenue in Brooklyn.
