The Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) is hoping that a recent donation of policing equipment by Grenadian officers in the New York City Police Department (NYPD) will be a starting point in forging closer ties with Grenadian law enforcement officers in the Diaspora.
Deputy Commissioner Edvin Martin said the Royal Grenada Police Force will be exploring a two-pronged approach with the Grenadian officers of the NYPD.
“One of the ways in which we can expand this relationship is to explore the possibility of having a strategic relationship and an exchange programme — at the strategic level and at the tactical level,” he said.
“That way we can send police officers to NYPD to observe how they carry out their activities — planning and executing activities — both at the strategic and tactical levels.
And vice versa, their officers at different levels can also come to Royal Grenada Police Force and see how we do things and maybe even offer advice that can help us in developing our own procedures and practices.”
DCOPs Martin and Franklyn Redhead and Assistant Commissioners Michael Francois and Trevor Modeste were among rank and file officers of the Royal Grenada Police Force who attended a presentation ceremony of protective vests, helmets, and other equipment including traffic enforcement equipment.
Lieutenant Nimrod Ollivierre, who led the group of Grenadian NYPD officers, said that they’re already looking at other areas they could provide assistance, support and collaboration.
The donation was as a result of fundraising initiatives by the officers in New York following the shooting death of Corporal Daniel Edgar of the RGPF last April.
