The laughter of children and the joy of the holiday season filled Resorts World New York City (RWNYC) last December as the casino partnered with the NYPD to host a Christmas event that brightened the lives of more than 110 children and their families.
The collaboration, spearheaded by Michelle Stoddart, senior vice president of Community Development and Public Affairs for Resort World NYC, and Chief Kevin Williams, commanding officer of Patrol Borough Queens South, marked the first of its kind between the two organizations. Families of police officers from all eight precincts under Chief Williams’ jurisdiction gathered for a day of celebration, kindness, and connection.
“We wanted the families to feel truly appreciated during the holidays. From gifts to food and entertainment, we created a full day of joy and celebration,” Stoddart said.
The event offered more than presents. Parents and children were treated to a safe and welcoming environment to enjoy time together. For some families, it was a rare moment of respite. Gifts were also sent home for siblings unable to attend, ensuring no child was left out.
Chief Williams highlighted the more profound significance of the event. “We felt it was important not only to ensure people feel safe but also to connect with the community and bring some holiday cheer,” he said. “This was our way of giving back to the community that supports us.”
RWNYC’s involvement extended beyond the venue. The event was a team effort supported by Viok Marketing and its founder, David Huie. Huie, a longtime organizer of toy drives, worked closely with local precincts to make the celebration a success. “I’ve always been about connecting celebrities, corporations, and communities to create impactful moments like this,” Huie shared.
The partnership underscored the community spirit and the importance of coming together during the holidays. RWNYC and the NYPD have a history of collaboration, but this event showcased their shared commitment to fostering unity.
“The event was a huge success. We’re already looking forward to making it even bigger and better in the future,” Stoddart said.
As the holiday season ended, the smiles and gratitude from families left a lasting impression, a testament to the power of community and collective effort.
