The Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center will host two events to commemorate the life and legacy of Malcolm X/ El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz. Both events will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
2:00 p.m.: The Legacy of Malcolm X:Live streamed debate from London between Professor Tariq Ramadan of Oxford University and Professor Paul Gilroy of the LSE.
7:00 p.m.: From the Audubon to Africa and Beyond: The International dimensions of Malcolm X: A discussion with A. Peter Bailey.
Malcolm X, courageous advocate for the rights of African Americans, Pan Africans, and all oppressed peoples, was assassinated here at the Audubon Ballroom on Feb. 21, 1965. His message of speaking truth to power lives on to this very day. The purpose of the event is to remember his life and his enduring legacy as a champion of Human Rights and Social Justice.
The events will be held in the lobby of the Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center, 3940 Broadway, cross st. 165th in Washington Heights. (Take A, C, 1 to 168th St.)
Those in attendance may also view Freedom’s Sisters, an exhibit celebrating 20 African American women who fought for freedom and changed the course of history.
