Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel was crowned the 2015 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) T20 champion when the team defeated the Barbados Tridents at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad on Sunday, July 26.
The team led by Dwayne Bravo took home the US$400,000 first prize.
Set 179 runs to win the match, the Tridents were in the game until the penultimate over when Bravo allowed just 10 runs, leaving spinner Sulieman Benn to do the job in the last over, which he kept tight, as big-hitting Tridents captain Kieron Pollard and Jason Holder realized they were on the losing end and batted out the final two overs.
Thousands of Red Steel fans were jumping and started celebrating when the final over was being bowled as the Tridents needed 20 runs in the final over. The Tridents ended their innings on 158 for four in the 20th over.
The Red Steel moved up from the bottom of the table to second place which earned them a place to play in the finals.
