Former West Indies wicket keeper Denesh Ramdin who was omitted from the West Indies squad for bad performances with the bat should be given an opportunity to return.
Ramdin scored heavily for his native Trinidad and Tobago during the regional One-Day Series and he has shown his difference in technique, which worked for him during the Regional Series.
He is the best wicket keeper in the West Indies and his batting is also better than any other wicket keeper in the region so it will be justifiable to bring him back into the squad. Ramdin is not a stranger to the highest level of the game. He was there before and he has the capabilities to come back and score heavily down in the order.
Lower Order Batsmen Must Develop Their Skills
The West Indies lower order batsmen seem to have a liking to contribute runs to their team and that is welcome news for West Indies cricket.
Devendra Bishoo and Ravi Rampaul played very well in the second innings of the first Test Match at the Providence Stadium, Guyana. West Indies won that test match by 40 runs and this clearly shows how every run is important.
Bishoo played in his first test match and picked up valuable wickets while Rampaul continued his good form with the ball from the One-Day Series into the tests.
Whenever the lower order batsmen score runs can make any squad uniquely competitive and this creates a real threat to the opposition. Denesh Ramdin must return because his experience is needed both with the bat and behind the wicket.
Dropped Catches And Bad Batting
West Indies poor showing in the second test match is clearly because of bad batting and miserable fielding and catching. Pakistan won the toss and scored 272 runs in the first innings with Azhar Ali scoring 67, Umar Akmal 56 and captain Misbah-ul-Haq 25.
Some vital partnerships were shared during the Pakistani innings. Captain Misbah-ul-Haq shared 50 runs partnership with Azhar Ali. West Indies in their first innings scored 223 runs with Marlon Samuels hitting a patient 57 runs, Ravi Rampaul 32 not out and Kemar Roach 29 not out.
Captain Darren Sammy dropped two catches at slip, Darren Bravo dropped one at first slip, Lendl Simmons dropped one at mid-off and wicket keeper Carlton Baugh one miss stumping off Devendra Bishoo.
Kemar Roach must be very disappointed because most of the dropped catches was from his bowling. Most of the West Indies batsmen are having a huge problem playing against the spinners and scoring big.
Head Coach Ottis Gibson has a big task ahead to get his batsmen to win the battle against the spinners. India comes next and the spinners are readily prepared. Get the job done Mr. Gibson and ensure Captain Darren Sammy is in your classroom.
