Omega Chi Nursing Sorority celebrated Nurses’ Week with the theme “Culture of Safety: It starts with You.”
During the week members of the Sorority worshipped at Bethlehem Baptist Church, participated in a symposium at SUNY, Downstate Medical Center and President of the Sorority Phyllis Payne-Dublin along with Judy Lewis and Merle Warren visited the Lenox Academy Junior High and participated in the school’s Careers Day.
During the Careers Day event the sorority members encouraged and inspired students from grades 6 to 8 to always follow their dreams and the nurses shared their road to success and the rewarding benefits of being a nurse.
The week came to a climax with the celebration at the Dr. Susan Smith-McKinney Rehabilitation Center. The participants were blessed with a song by Ms. Angela Cooper. Keynote speaker Ms. Leslie Groves spoke on the theme “Culture of Safety: It Starts With You.”
Elijah Bernard entertained the audience with his musical selections and Judith Lewis paid tribute to nurses.
Two members were presented with awards: Judith Lewis received The Member of the Year Award and Gale Garland received The Award for Unsung Hero.
The nurses’ week events came to an end with refreshments and Jerry provided guests with music. The Chapter received a proclamation from Senator Parker. Ms. Phyllis Payne-Dublin, president, gave the closing remarks. The members of the Awards Committees are Merle Warren, chair, Escline Green, co-chair; Alla Mai Clark, co-chair; Karen McNeil, Heather Ingram, Carrie Williams, Enid Sampson and Bernice Simmons.
