Nellone Eze Reid: Actively fund-raises for non-profit groups

Born in Georgetown, Guyana to Neville and Orla Reid on Feb. 28, 1986, Nellone Eze Reid migrated with his family to Brooklyn in December of 1988.

He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in 2004, where his major was Environmental Science. While still in high school, Reid’s interest in the sciences was peaked even further as an intern at the New York Presbyterian Hospital, assisting in cancer and diabetes research.

Reid received his Bachelors of Science degree in Chemical Engineering at Hampton University in 2008 and was an active member of professional organizations, such as the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the National Society of Black Engineers.

Currently, outside of life as a student, he actively volunteers throughout the Newark, New Jersey area as a brother of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., as well as in New York City by hosting fundraisers for local non-profit organizations throughout the year.

Reid successfully defended his dissertation on April 17, 2014 and will be receiving his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) next May.

Working closely with his advisor, Professor Robert Barat, Reid’s research focused on the consequences of manipulating chemical properties of catalysts as they relates to sulfur oxidations.

His work has been published in Chemical Engineering Communications. He has also had the opportunity to present his research in the Dana Knox Graduate Student Showcase in 2011; the Catalysis Society of Metropolitan New York Spring Symposium in 2013; the National Organization of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers National Convention in 2013; and the National Society of Black Engineers National Convention in 2014.

Reid says it is “an honor to be among the small percentage of black men to have achieved their Ph.Ds.”
