Two Brooklyn groups held a generous Christmas party for needy families at P.S. 5 on Dec. 8.
Organizers from Don’t 4Get Me — a support organization for teenage mothers, and We Say What They Can’t — an independent radio show, held their third annual Christmas Giftback event to help the families living in shelters last weekend.
Dozens showed up to attend the supportive party, and many left in good spirits, said one of the organizers and host of ‘We Say What They Can’t.’
“I’m glad that we can bring a bit of Christmas to those who may not have been able to celebrate it otherwise,” said Don Morock. “The fact that we were able to put smiles on so many people’s faces, makes me happy that I can use my platform to continue to give back.”
More than 100 families attended the event and partied to music with food and Santa Claus. Young children and teens at the gathering also received early Christmas gifts.
The event was a chance to show appreciation to families likely going through a tough time of being without a home during the holiday season. The founder of ‘Don’t 4Get Me,’ Simone Goss, said having firsthand experience of being in that situation is why she fully supports the mission of giving back.
“It’s so important for me to be able to give back because I was once in a homeless shelter for teen moms,” she said. “I understand how being in that situation can make it difficult to look forward to the holidays.”
