According to a reliable clerical source, arrangements have been made for Grenadians in New York City to be able to join in celebrating a Memorial Mass for The Most Reverend Vincent Matthew Darius, O.P., the first native Bishop of the Roman Catholic Church in Grenada, Carriacou & Petite Martinique.
This Mass will be held at St. Matthew’s R.C. Church, located at 1123 Eastern Parkway, corner of Utica Avenue, Brooklyn, New York, on Monday, May 2, at 7 pm It will be preceded by a period of viewing of the body, which begins at 4 pm.
Bishop Vincent Matthew Darius was born in Crochu, St. Andrew, Grenada on Sept. 6, 1955.
He was later ordained a priest on June 28, 1987, and on July 10, 2002 appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Saint George’s, Grenada. Ordination to the office of Bishop, followed on Oct. 2, 2002.
The Most Reverend Vincent Matthew Darius, succumbed to prolonged illness, on Tuesday, April 26, 2016.
“He will be remembered as a remarkable teacher; a friend of many, regardless of age, class or denomination; and a caring shepherd of God’s children back home and in the Diaspora,” reflects Cheryl Vincent, a Grenadian registered nurse and recording artiste, who is a founding member the liturgical-folk group, Quake USA.
Hundreds of Grenadians in the Diaspora have already been extending their condolences to the bereaved relatives, fellow pastors and spiritual family of Bishop Vincent Matthew Darius, O.P., especially via Facebook and other social media platforms.
May his soul rest in peace and may his example of affirmatively and steadfastly answering God’s call to be a servant-leader, be of inspiration to the living.
