Get ready for the Long Island Caribbean American Heritage Festival.
Now in its fifth year, the annual event is back as strong as ever to regale attendees with a smorgasbord of Caribbean cultural fair, organizers say.
The event, which runs from June 6 – 14, has evolved into a regionally sought-after summer staple for the Long Island, metropolitan New York, tri-state area and surrounding communities.
This year the events will include not only local but international Caribbean artists of various disciplines echoing the intoxicating anthems of reggae, soca, calypso, compa, salsa, bachata, garifuna, and punta rock.
The slated events will be featured at a variety of locations throughout Long Island. This 2014 program will also include a Caribbean Business Round Table and the Savor the Island Weekend Restaurant on June 6.
On June 13 there will be the inaugural Caribbean Heritage State Ball to be held at The Carltun, 18-89 Hempstead Turnpike East Meadows located in Eisenhower Park, Hempstead, Long Island.
On top of that, there will be a special ―New Legend‖ award to be presented to international reggae star Sanchez. The festival will also feature a tribute to steel-pan music featuring the Adlib Steel Orchestra.
The Family Fun Day/Music Fest will be at the Eisenhower Park’s Lakeside Amphitheater on June 14, the Caribbean Open Golf Tournament, LICAHF Adult and Youth Soccer and Netball Tournaments will also take place in the park. All are being invited to attend and join in the celebration, lorganizers say, adding that events will showcase some of the most spectacular new and emerging musical talents in the industry..
Over the last five years, the LICAHF festival initiative has featured more than 200 artists and performers and has had an excess of some 40,000 attendees celebrating cross-cultural heritage and the cultures of the Caribbean.
The festival provides an opportunity to profile the legacy as well as the evolution of Caribbean international business and trade throughout the last 50 years and examines the role they play in sustaining the brand globally, according to the organizers.
“The project will engage business communities in addition to fusing multi-ethnic audiences from the New York City and tri-state area, and will produce these events in association with various community 501c3 organizations that are committed to bringing together the many multicultural communities, expressly for the inclusion and collaboration of world arts and culture for a common cause for the preservation of ethnic and national heritages,” according to a media release.
LICAHF has been attempting to create links that will fuse corporations, businesses and organizations and showcase the creative talents of highly accomplished emerging artists.
