It’s going to be two Brooklyn teams in the Finals. Abraham Lincoln continues with their perfect season to beat a tough Dewitt Clinton team (30-14) at Lincoln and Erasmus Hall defeated the always difficult Tottenville football team, in Staten Island (20-17), in overtime. Both Lincoln and Erasmus will meet at Yankee Stadium with the City Championship in the balance.
Lincoln, with quarterback Jessel Jones and running back Kareem Folkes leading the way, put up 30 points to Clinton’s 14. Lincoln was strong in the first half, but Clinton came out determined in the second half, where they put up all their 14 points.
Clinton made a run at a comeback with defensive standout Jeremiah Obeng Agyapong playing outstanding and picking off a Jessel Jones pass to spark the comeback. In the end, Lincoln had too much offense as Kareem Folkes rushed for 140 yards and Jones 130 from the quarteback postion. Jones was named the games MVP for his production and leadership.
Jones says going to Yankee Stadium is great, “everyone will be there”. It’s the “best experience”, in a “big atmosphere.” He regarded his own teams defense very highly as they recorded 6 sacks as a team, and they “came up big”.
Erasmus won at Tottenville in a up and down overtime thriller. Erasmus relies on a triple set of playmakers, Wayne Morgan at quarteback, with Shaquell Jackson and Kahil Lewin from the running spots. Erasmus is playing very well, winning their last 6 games. Erasmus and Lincoln have yet to meet this season.
