Kingsbrook’s Best Health School has partnered with the 71st Precinct to feature a series of educational sessions for the community this summer. On Saturday, July 22, Neighborhood Coordinating Officers Paul Parkinson and Stephen Schmitt will present “Domestic Violence Education,” discussing the importance of understanding abusive relationships and what interventions are necessary. The event will be held on Kingsbrook’s main campus at 585 Schenectady Ave. between Winthrop Street & Rutland Road in the Lillian Minkin Ballroom.
The Neighborhood Coordinating Police Officer program was created out of the need for new methods to close the gap between cops and communities. Through this program, New York city residents get to know their neighborhood police officers in a different way.
“Domestic violence is an important issue that needs focus and discussion,” said Enid Dillard, director of Marketing & Public Affairs. “We are happy to partner with our neighborhood coordinating officers at the 71st Precinct as part of our Best Health School initiative, especially to present this important subject matter.”

One in three women and one in four men in the United States have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner. Closer to home in Brooklyn, there were 27, 966 intimate partner domestic incident reports filed in 2016. The mission of the Best Health School is to provide better access to wellness information and screenings to promote healthier communities in the borough of Brooklyn. As such, the Best Health School’s education programs are an integral part of Kingsbrook’s effort to improve access to quality care and education efforts.
